A utility locator is responsible for identifying and marking the location of underground utility lines, such as gas, electric, water, and communication lines. They use specialized equipment and techniques to detect and trace the path of these lines, and then mark their location on the ground with flags, paint, or other markers. Utility locators may work for utility companies, construction firms, or other organizations that need to know the location of underground utilities before digging or excavating. They must follow safety protocols to ensure that they do not damage or disrupt any underground lines, and may need to communicate with other workers or members of the public who may be affected by their work. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions are important qualities for this job.
